Kale and Sausage Dressing

The star of this rustic dish is kale that brings a tasty spin on traditional dressing.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf (20oz)
    whole wheat or white hearth bread, cut into ½ -inch cubes (about 11 cups)
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 3 Tbsp
    unsalted butter
  • 3
    stalks celery, thinly sliced
  • 3
    crisp apples, cored and diced
  • 1/2 bag
    Kale Vegetable Medley with Minced Garlic (805), frozen
  • 1/2 cup, divided
    water
  • 2 1/2 cups
    low sodium chicken broth
  • 2 Tbsp
    chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 tsp
    kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    fresh-ground black pepper

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

2. Bake bread cubes on baking sheet, stirring once, until dried, 15 to 20 minutes.

3. Transfer to a large bowl and set aside

4. Sauté sausage, celery and apples in large skillet over medium heat 3 minutes.

5. Add kale blend and 1/4 cup water. Cook 8 minutes, stirring frequently.

6. Blend mixture with bread, broth, thyme, salt and pepper.

7. Place dressing into 2 quart baking dish.

8. Bake uncovered 35 minutes or until heated through
